Former Inter Milan midfielder Evaristo Beccalossi hails the management for building a team that went on to dominate the Italian landscape.
The 67-year-old represented the Nerazzurri between 1978 and 1985. He won a Scudetto title during his time at San Siro.
The Brescia native is happy to see the club flourishing under the guidance of the current regime, despite the mishap represented by their elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
The Italian giants were seemingly the odds-on favorites to reach the tournament’s quarter-finals according to champions league oddschecker, especially after winning the first leg of the Round of 16, beating Atletico Madrid 1-0 at home. However, the Spaniards eventually snatched the ticket following dramatic penalty shootouts.
Nevertheless, the European disappointment doesn’t completely overshadow what has been a prosperous domestic campaign
Simone Inzaghi’s men are currently leading the Serie A standings while boasting a healthy lead over the likes of AC Milan and Juventus.
The Rossoneri are currently their closest chasers. Yet, they sit 14 points adrift.
Therefore, Beccalossi applauds the Inter management for putting together a squad capable of dominating Serie A.
“Simone Inzaghi’s team is strong. They have a truly competitive group,” said the Italian in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908.
“The gap with Milan depicts Inter’s strength. The table tells the true story.
“In the previous season, it was Napoli who clinched the title early. But this term, Inter has the strongest team.”
Moreover, a section of Nerazzurri faithful are hoping to mathematically seal the club’s 20th Scudetto in the upcoming Derby della Madonnina with a win over their crosstown rivals on the 22nd of April. This scenario remains plausible.
Evaristo Beccalossi Praise Inter Milan Directors For Their Brilliant Work On The Market
On another note, Beccalossi salutes the club’s directors who managed to improve the squad despite selling key players.
“In recent years, we have witnessed the sale of several top players. like Andre Onana.
“However, other players arrived in their stead and turned out to be excellent signings.
“Their arrivals boosted the team’s level and the results in the league prove it.
“I think we should give a round of applause to those who navigated these situations and to those who, with their daily work, ensured that Inter remained on top.
“We’ll see what happens next season. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the league finale while remaining focused on the objective.”
Beccalossi also dwelled on the club’s strategy of poaching top players on free transfers.
Inter directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have snapped up the likes of Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on free deals.
Moreover, similar arrangements are set for Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski this summer.
“The Inter directors have been great at finding valuable and experienced players at no cost.
“The free agents market isn’t simple. Inter have shown they know how to do it and bring out quality players who are useful to the cause.
“In the current squad, eight players have arrived for free over the past few years, five this season alone.
“From Thuram to Calhanoglu, passing through De Vrij and Mkhitaryan to name a few. They are reference points of the Nerazzurri project.”
