Italian Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi has warned that in its current condition, the San Siro won’t be fit to host matches for EURO 2032.

Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, Abodi gave his thoughts on the condition of the iconic stadium.

At the moment, the future of the San Siro is very much up in the air.

For several years, Inter and AC Milan had been attempting to secure approval for plans to demolish the iconic stadium in order to build a new one in its place.

However, the clubs were unable to do so. Therefore, they are each pursuing alternate plans to build new stadiums in the metropolitan area of Milan.

But Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is hoping that he can convince the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri to stay at the San Siro.

The Mayor’s plan is to renovate the stadium. This could prospectively bring it up to a level that meets the clubs’ needs in terms of revenues.

Abodi: San Siro Not Currently Fit To Host EURO 2032 Matches

But then there are other factors to consider besides the needs of Inter and Milan.

Namely, there is the fact that the San Siro is set to play a big role in the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympic Games.

This would include hosting the opening ceremony of the games.

And then, Italy will host the Euros jointly with Turkey in 2032.

And according to Italian Minister of Sport Abodi, there would be significant problems in terms of the San Siro playing a role in that tournament.

Abodi explained that “We will choose the five stadiums for EURO 2032 in 2026.”

“In the current conditions, Milan would not be able to host matches for the tournament,” the Minister continued.

“A lot of work is being done in order to host the 2027 Champions League final,” he added.

“But there’s still a long way to go. We’re trying to accelerate it.”
