Inter Milan are waiting for authorization from owners Suning to make a new contract extension offer to Lautaro Martinez.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.

The contract talks between Inter and Martinez’s representatives have been going on for months now.

But as of yet, the Argentine international has not put pen to paper on a new deal.

The reason is simple – Inter have yet to make an offer that’s sufficient for Martinez’s demands.

The 26-year-old certainly wants to stay at the Nerazzurri in the long term. But he has not accepted any of of the offers that the club have put on the table yet.

Inter have reportedly gone as high as around 8 million net per season plus add-ons with their previous offers.

Martinez, meanwhile, is aiming for around 10 million net per season.

Inter Milan Yet To Get Authorization From Suning To Make Improved Offer To Lautaro Martinez

Inter are just about ready to make an increased offer to Martinez, however.

The Gazzetta report that the Nerazzurri would be prepared to offer the 26-year-old a deal until the end of June 2028 that would be worth around 9 million net per season plus add-ons.

And that could more or less be enough to seal the deal.

But as of yet, the Gazzetta note, Inter have not actually formally offered a new deal of that size.

And the reason is that the club’s owners have yet to give the green light.

At the moment, there is a lot of uncertainty around Inter at the ownership level.

It is now mere weeks away from the expiry of a deadline from US-based fund Oaktree to Suning which, if the Inter owners were to default, would see their shares in Inter pass into the hands of the fund.

Therefore, at the moment, the Inter owners will not make any decisions as important as authorizing a big money new deal for Martinez.
