In a season that has seen the Nerazzurri dominate Italian football with an iron grip, Inter Milan’s performance in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign has been nothing short of spectacular.

As we approach the business end of the campaign, Inter are a whopping 14 points clear of AC Milan. They are on the cusp of reclaiming the Scudetto after three long years.

Simone Inzaghi’s men could win the title should they defeat the aforementioned Rossoneri on April 22nd. This would make the lifting of the crown all the more sweet.

Inter Milan To Make Serie History?

Despite domestic success, Inter’s European campaign came to an end at the hands of underdogs Atletico Madrid on penalties. A popular online sport betting site still makes Los Rojiblancos the rank outsiders in the Champions League this season, something that will eat away at Simone Inzaghi as many considered his team genuine contenders for the second straight year. But at least he has the chance to make his team history-makers.

At the time of writing, Inter currently sit on 79 points with 24 still to play for. Should they win all eight of their remaining fixtures, then this Nerazzurri team would officially be the greatest in the history of Italian football.

They would accumulate 103 points, one more than Antonio Conte’s record-setting Juventus back in 2014. But while that figure is the all-important one in terms of records, what are Inter’s greatest-ever points totals?

2006/07 – 97 Points

The 2006/07 Serie A season will forever be etched in the memories of Inter fans as one of the club’s most triumphant campaigns.

The club took full advantage of the fallout from the Calciopoli scandal that rocked Italian football. They firmly cemented themselves as the dominant force in Italian football.

Under the stewardship of Roberto Mancini and with a squad boasting the talents of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Javier Zanetti, and Esteban Cambiasso, Inter went on a relentless march, accumulating an astounding 97 points by the end of the season. This almighty haul saw them finish a staggering 22 points clear of second-placed Roma.

2020/21 – 91 Points

Fast forward to the 2020/21 season, and Inter Milan were suddenly without a Scudetto in over a decade. Step forward the aforementioned Conte, who left Chelsea at the end of the 2018 season to take over the reins at the San Siro.

Two years into his stint, he was finally ready for an all-out assault on Serie A. He finally ended the dominance of a Juventus team that he had created a decade prior.

With a points tally of 91, the Nerazzurri displayed a level of consistency and resilience that had been missing in previous years.

The dynamic striking duo of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez terrorized defenses across the country.

Moreover, the defensive solidity provided by Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij ensured that Conte’s side was a formidable force at both ends of the pitch. They finished 12 points clear of AC Milan, with reigning champions of the last nine years Juventus – a Bianconeri team that featured Cristiano Ronaldo no less – way down in fourth.

2007/08 – 85 Points

This one ensued one year after dominating the league under Mancini and setting their greatest-ever points tally. The Nerazzurri were eager to defend their title and assert their newfound supremacy.

Despite facing stiff competition from Roma, who finished just three points behind, Inter managed to secure their third consecutive Scudetto with a total of 85 points.

Unfortunately, however, in Europe, their campaign would be somewhat disappointing. They were downed by a Steven Gerrard-Fernando Torres-powered Liverpool in the second round.
