Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang wants the Serie A to be a symbol for his Inter Milan, embodying intensity, intelligence, and class.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
This evening, Inter have an enormous opportunity before them.
The Nerazzurri could clinch the Serie A title in the derby against AC Milan.
That would be the first time that either of the two city rivals had done so.
And everyone at Inter is relishing this prospect – whether they admit it or not.
Inter President Zhang charged up the troops with words to the squad in a video conference call yesterday.
And naturally, enthusiasm and intensity were key themes of the President’s remarks.
But Zhang also added a comment that he expects the squad to “uphold Inter’s values” during their celebrations.
And these words had a particular resonance.
Steven Zhang Wants Serie A Title To Show The “Values” Of His Inter
When AC Milan won the Serie A title in the 2021-22 season, there were some lingering controversies during the title celebrations.
These concerned some taunts aimed at Inter and the Nerazzurri players.
Particularly midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu suffered the insults. The Turk’s former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic directed chants at him during Milan’s celebration parade.
Naturally, that could give victory in this evening’s derby the sense of revenge over the Rossoneri for Inter.
But Nerazzurri President has still urged his players not to take things too far.
The President emphasized “sportsmanship” and “respect for the opposition.”
Zhang’s hope is that, for all the passion and intensity, Inter can take the high road.
Even with the natural sense of rivalry and at at times animosity, the Inter President does not want to see things devolve into tasteless mockery.
Zhang feels that the derby, the title, and everything they mean are sufficient motivation – without petty revenge.
