Inter Milan have finally reached tactical maturity under Simone Inzaghi this season, dominating Serie A and clinching the title.
This progressive growth is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
There have been signs of what was to come right from the beginning of Inzaghi’s Inter.
The coach’s first competitive match in charge was a 4-0 Serie A win over Genoa. That demonstrated how potent his football could be.
But some inconsistency in the run-in suggested that there were still growing pains as Inter found the right balance under the former Lazio coach.
Last season, those growing pains seemed to if anything get worse.
In Serie A, Inter suffered from erratic form all season long. There were twelve losses in the league in total as the Nerazzurri struggled to control matches and lacked cutting edge in the final third.
In Europe, however, Inter shone. Inzaghi seemed to find another gear on the big stage as the Nerazzurri ran through the knockout rounds of the Champions League, all the way to the final.
Inter Reach Full Tactical Maturity Under Simone Inzaghi To Win Serie A
And this season, something has just clicked.
That was evident right from the start. Inter kicked the season off with a breathless sequence of results in Serie A, including a 4-0 win over Fiorentina and a 5-1 derby thrashing of AC Milan.
Those victories were a testament to how well Inzaghi has the team functioning.
Whether Inter dominated possession or looked to play more on the counterattack, the Nerazzurri’s movement on the pitch perfectly reflected the coach’s vision.
And unlike title rivals such as Milan and Juventus, Inter simply never relented this season.
To kick off 2024, Inter won ten matches in a row. Week after week, the Nerazzurri embodied exactly how Inzaghi wanted his team to play on the pitch.
