Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon feels that Inter Milan’s Yann Sommer is currently the best goalkeeper in Serie A.

This season, Sommer has taken over the role of starting keeper at Inter with authority.

There was a fair bit of pressure on the Swiss international’s shoulders.

Inter took a gamble by selling Andre Onana – who had been one of the Nerazzurri’s key players on their run to the Champions League final – and signing a veteran to replace him.

But it has been precisely Sommer’s veteran experience that has made the 35-year-old work out well in his new role.

Sommer has won the Serie A title, his second league title in two different countries.

The Swiss international’s shot-stopping has had an important role to play in Inter’s defense being the best in Serie A this season.

The Nerazzurri have conceded the fewest goals in the Italian top flight. They have also kept the most clean sheets.

Gianluigi Buffon: “Yann Sommer The Best Keeper In Serie A”

Buffon certainly knows one or two things about being the outstanding keeper in Serie A.

The legendary former Italy international was the Italian top flight’s best keeper for over a decade.

And Buffon is a huge fan of Inter keeper Sommer.

Asked who the best keeper in the Italian top flight is in his estimation, Buffon replied “Looking at the goals conceded, you can’t help but say Sommer.”

“For many, he has come as a surprise,” the former Juventue captain noted.

“But for me, he’s just confirmed what I already knew.”

“I’ve always had the sense that he’s a very reliable goalkeeper,” said Buffon of Inter’s Number One.
