Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has made extending his contract with the Nerazzurri his only priority for the future.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that the 26-year-old “loves” Inter and is determined to stay.

At the moment, Martinez is still under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

The Argentine international is on the same contract he signed in the autumn of 2021.

But naturally, Inter want to change that.

Given Martinez’s importance to the team – and the prospective transfer interest in the 26-year-old – the Nerazzurri want to lock down his future on a new long-term contract.

This would naturally carry with it a significant pay raise to reflect Martinez’s role in the team.

The contract extension talks have been ongoing for several months.

Reports had in fact indicated that Inter had been hoping to have Martinez put pen to paper as early as January.

That did not happen. And Martinez’s agent made clear why that is the case – Inter have not made an offer high enough to meet the Argentine’s demands.

Inter Contract Extension The Only Priority For Lautaro Martinez

None of this means, however, that there is any doubt about what Martinez wants for his future.

The Corriere report that from the player’s perspective, there is zero thought of a transfer to another club any time soon.

Martinez is naturally very happy with what he has already achieved as Inter captain.

And the 26-year-old feels there’s more to come.

On Martinez’s part there is a sincere feeling of attachment to the Inter shirt, to the fans, and to the current Nerazzurri project.

Therefore, it is still a matter of when rather than if Martinez signs a new contract.

It may take another round or two of negotiations. But the Inter Milan captain only has one thing in his mind.
