Legenmdary former Nerazzurri keeper Walter Zenga feels that Yann Sommer has been the “perfect signing” for Inter Milan.

The former keeper gave his thoughts to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He admitted that he was initially uncertain but then that Sommer won him over.

Sommer joined Inter last summer from Bayern Munich.

The Swiss international was part of a complete goalkeeping overhaul at the club.

With both Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic gone, the Nerazzurri were putting their faith in Sommer to be the man to keep a sense of stability between the posts.

Of course, with Sommer in his mid-thirties, the former Borussia Monchengladbach and Basel keeper was never going to be the long-term solution as Inter’s Number One.

However, it was vital that the veteran keeper hit the ground running.

Having sold Onana after just one season unexpectedly, Inter lost the player they had bedded in to become the starting keeper over a season of transition.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri’s priority was someone with experience and reliability.

Walter Zaenga: “Yann Sommer The Perfect Signing For Inter Milan”

Former Inter keeper Zenga gave his thoughts on players who have been key for Inter this season.

“Firstly I’d say Dimarco,” the former keeper said. “Like me, he grew up in Milan and then came back to win the Scudetto after spending some time out on loan.”

“Secondly, Mkhitaryan,” Zenga went on. “He’s always present. Always giving a very high-level contribution considering his age.

“And third, I would say Sommer,” he went on. “Because at first he didn’t convince me. But in reality he turned out to be a perfect signing.”

And Zenga also gave his thoughts on Inter’s season as a whole.

“I’m happy, not just because of the Scudetto,” the former Nerazzurri keeper said.

“But also because this is a period where Inter are at the very top.”

“Think about all the cup trophies they’ve won, and the European finals under Inzaghi. You have to be happy with that.”
