Legendary Inter Milan striker Alessandro Altobelli pays tribute to the club’s departing president Steven Zhang.

This has been a turbulent week for the Nerazzurri amidst the change of ownership.

Suning failed to repay their loan to Oaktree Capital on the due date. Therefore, they were forced to relinquish their majority shares at the club to the American investment company.

Therefore, Altobelli took the opportunity to thank Zhang for everything he had done while at the club’s helm.

He’s also happy to see CEO Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio remain at the club.

“Many thanks to those who were there and won several trophies. And good luck to those who arrive, hoping that they can do even better,” said the 1982 World Cup winner in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“But the only thing that interests us is that Marotta and Ausilio remain at the club.”

The 67-year-old also spoke about the key renewals of Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi and star players Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella.

“At the moment, there are three key figures of the sports project awaiting renewal. But I return to the initial theme. Our directors always have every aspect under control.

“They have already moved forward with the various negotiations for renewals. However, the change of ownership could delay the final agreements.

“But I’m sure that Lautaro, Barella and Inzaghi will renew in the end.”

“Since Zhang was unable to stay close to the team, the Italian directors took everything into their own hands.

“I don’t think Oaktree will allocate a budget for the transfer market, but it will be enough to stick to the plan already set by Steven.”

Altobelli concluded with a greeting message for the departing president.

“Thank you, Steven, on behalf of the fans, the real ones, for what you have done over the last eight years. We will miss you and wish you the best.”
