Inter Milan fear PSG are waiting in the wings for captain Lautaro Martinez as contract extension talks continue to stall.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews.

At the moment, there is a deadlock in the contract extension talks between Inter and Martinez.

FCIN report that within a day or two, there should be another meeting between the Nerazzurri and Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano.

And there will be a sense of urgency to the meeting.

Previous rounds of negotiations have had more of a sense of preliminary groundwork.

However, now Inter and Martinez feel that a clearing-of-the-air is overdue.

The fact that there still appears to be significant distance between Inter’s offer and Martinez’s demands is starting to cause real anxiety.

Ultimately, Inter will have to ask Martinez’s agent Camano in a straightforward manner whether the player is willing to drop his demands in terms of wages to something feasible for the club.

The Nerazzurri are willing to go as high as around 10 million net per season with add-ons. That would have the symbolic significant of moving the Argentine into double figures.

Inter have made clear, however, that they can’t go any higher than that.

Therefore, if Martinez and his agent continue to demand more (as rumours suggest that the Inter captain wants 12 million net per season, possibly even rising over the course of his deal) then it is a sign that the Inter captain has no intention of signing a new deal.

And it would also seem to indicate that Martinez believes he can receive that amount from elsewhere.

The question, then, is which club is ready to put forward a contract offer to Martinez that Inter can’t match.

FCIN report that the Nerazzurri are wondering if it could be French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The Parisians recently met with Camano to discuss another of his clients, former Inter wingback Achraf Hakimi.

If PSG were to have also proposed an interest in Martinez, Inter expect, this could be the reason for the player and his agent not backing down in their high demands.
