Napoli will soon meet with the agent of Inter Milan, AC Milan, Spurs, and Atletico Madrid target Alessandro Buongiorno.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that Buongiorno’s current club Torino want €40 million to sell the 24-year-old Italian international.
There is no mystery as to why Buongiorno is one of the hot names on the transfer market in Serie A for this summer.
The 24-year-old has been one of the outstanding defenders in the Italian top flight across the season just gone.
Buongiorno played a big role in Torino having as strong a defensive record as they did over the course of the campaign.
The 24-year-old’s physicality, pace, and man-marking ability make him a logical profile particularly for the central role in a team that plays with a back three.
Moreover, Buongiorno has good experience playing in such a position under Ivan Juric at the Granata. He has proven very adept at defending his own penalty area and keeping centre-forwards quite.
Napoli To Meet With Agent Of Inter, Spurs & Atletico Target Buongiorno
One of the teams to take a strong interest in signing Buongiorno is Inter.
The Nerazzurri play with a back three. And with both regular starters in the central defensive role – Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij – now in their mid-thirties, some new blood will be necessary sooner or later.
Meanwhile, Inter’s city rivals AC Milan are also keen on signing Buongiorno.
However, it is not just Italian teams keen on Buongiorno.
La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are also targeting the 24-year-old. As are Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
However, yet another team are trying to get ahead in the race to sign Buongiorno.
Napoli are aiming to reinforce their backline following a miserable title defense this season. The departure of defensive anchor Kim Min-Jae undoubtedly played a role in the Campanians’ free-fall form.
Moreover, Napoli are reportedly on the verge of appointing former Inter, Juventus, and Chelsea coach Antonio Conte.
The fact that Conte plays with a back three system makes Buongiorno a very logical choice.
The 54-year-old will certainly demand defensive reinforcements. And Buongiorno is right at the top of his list, reports Tuttosport.
Conte’s arrival could also be a factor in making Buongiorno believe that a move to Napoli is the right next step for him.
In any event, Tuttosport report, the Partenopei plan to meet with Buongiorno’s agent very soon.
As far as trying to find an agreement with Torino goes, Tuttosport report that the Piedmontese club would be ready to stick to a valuation of €40 million.
Napoli may try and structure a deal as an initial loan or some similar formula. However, Torino would much prefer a straight cash deal.
