A report in the Italian media reveals when Inter Milan will officially announce the contract extension of Nicolo Barella.

The Nerazzurri have already found an agreement in principle with the player’s agent a couple of months ago.

However, the recent turmoil regarding the club’s ownership has been delaying the signatures.

Last week, Oaktree Capital took over the club as departing owners Suning failed to repay their debt on the due date.

Therefore, a general assembly will take place on June 4th to elect a new club president to succeed Steven Zhang.

The club will also appoint a new board of directors that will include Oaktree representatives.

So according to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the club will announce Barella’s contract renewal shortly after June 4th.

The Turin-based newspaper reveals that the Italian’s agent was spotted at the club’s headquarters yesterday.

But unlike Lautaro Martinez’s saga, there are absolutely no issues between Barella’s representative and the Nerazzurri management.

The same applies to head coach Simone Inzaghi who will also pen a new contract with the club.

The 48-year-old is also waiting for the dust to settle on the corporate level to sign a new agreement until 2027.

Inter Milan & Nicolo Barella To Sign New Contract After June 4th

As for Barella, his new contract should push back the deadline from 2026 to 2029.

The Sardinian has been plying his trade at San Siro since making the move from Cagliari in the summer of 2019.

The 27-year-old has been a stalwart in the middle of the park ever since. The Italian continues to grow from strength to strength with every passing campaign, cementing himself as one of the finest midfielders in Europe.

This season, the Euro 2020 winner has contributed with two goals and seven assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
