Inter Milan assistant coach Massimiliano Farris revealed how the Nerazzurri stars charged themselves before last month’s historic Derby della Madonnina.

Simone Inzaghi’s men beat their crosstown rivals AC Milan on April 21st to mathematically secure the Serie A title. This also unlocked the club’s coveted second star.

This prompted wild celebrations at San Siro in front of the Curva Nord.

As Farris explains, the players motivated themselves by recalling how devastated they were when they had fallen short against the Rossoneri in the title race in 2021/22.

“I don’t know if it’s a secret or not. But it all began two years ago,” said Inzaghi’s assistant in a recent interview via FcInterNews.

“In the last match of the season, we won against Sampdoria while Milan beat Sassuolo to win the Scudetto.

“One of the memories I still hold, perhaps because I am an Inter fan, are the 30 minutes of applause that the fans had given us that day when we were with our families on the pitch. Many of us were in tears.

“But this season, we were great from the start. At a certain point, it was evident that we would win the scudetto.

“Then began rumors that it could happen in the Derby. But in reality, the boys didn’t give much weight to this.

“And I’ll add another thing, in the last two or three games before the Derby, the physical data showed a certain decline in our form.

“But we weren’t worried because it was clear that we would win the league.

“However, when we returned to the locker room after the pre-match warm-up, the boys had prepared a monitor on which we usually inserted the opposing team.

“But instead, at that moment, the image of the last day of the 2021/22 season appeared on the screen.

“The boys said ‘Let’s remember that we cried that day’. At that moment I understood that the lads were desperate to win the league in the Derby,” concluded Farris.

The Nerazzurri won the decisive match 2-1 thanks to goals from Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram.
