Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto admits his early struggles at the club, as it took him some time to adjust to the methods of Simone Inzaghi.

The Nerazzurri signed the 25-year-old last summer following an excellent first Serie A campaign at Monza.

He arrived as a replacement for Robin Gosens, thus acting as Federico Dimarco’s understudy on the left flank.

The Brazilian initially struggled for playing time, often making substitute appearances.

But as the season progressed, his starting opportunities increased. Inzaghi also started deploying him as an alternative to Alessandro Bastoni as a left centre-back.

Augusto looked back on his campaign with the Nerazzurri which culminated with a Serie A title, admitting how he struggled to adapt to the coach’s playing style.

“When you arrive at a new club, and even more so, one that has played in the Champions League final, it is very difficult to fit into the group,” said the former Monza in his interview with TNT via FcInterNews.

“I think the most difficult element was understanding the coach’s playing method.

“But in the end, I learned it, quite quickly because it is a very tight group. It really felt like a family, and this helped us improve our style of play.

“I managed to have a good sequence of games, playing practically every match.”

The Inter wingback made his debut for Brazil last October, but missed out on a call-up for the Copa America.

“The moment I arrived at the national team wasn’t my best.

“Of course, given that I went to Europe a long time ago and I was playing in Serie B, I wasn’t well known even among the fans. This impeded my chances.

“I think I was very calm, in the opportunities I had I tried to do my best.

“The main objective is to continue, play a sequence of matches with the national team, get more minutes at Inter and see what this new season has in store.

“Dorival hasn’t called me, but I’m very calm, I’m rooting for the Seleção to produce their best in the Copa América and rise to the top once again.”
