The situation at Inter Milan has changed from night to day in the three years between June 2021 and June 2024.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Three years ago, Inter were celebrating the Serie A title just like this time around.

And just as with the start of this summer, the Nerazzuirri were gearing up for the transfer window.

However, that is where the similarities end.

In 2021, Inter barely had time to really enjoy their title triumph. That is because, just days after finishing the season, coach Antonio Conte decided to leave.

Conte’s decision to leave after bringing the title back to Inter was no big secret.

The coach saw the writing on the wall as far as the club’s financial situation.

Inter had to sell players in order to make up for a financial crisis that had really taken hold in the first year of the pandemic.

The likes of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku left for fees of around 60 million and 115 million respectively.

And Inter could hardly spend big to replace such key players.

Inter Milan From June 2021 To June 2024 – Night & Day

This summer, by contrast, there is no looming threat of big name departures from Inter.

Nothing can ever be ruled out in football, particularly if massive offers are to arrive.

But Inter are ready to hand contract extensions to key players like Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri have made clear that their intention is to keep their title-winning squad together, unlike three years ago.

There is not likely to be an ambitious summer of big name signings.

But compared to three years ago, that is fine.

In 2021, Inter were unable to build on their success. The club had to start building a new project.

Now, the Nerazzurri are enjoying the fruits of the project that they began at that time. And this time, they can keep building from this position of strength.
