Athletico Paranaense’s Bento remains at the top of Inter Milan’s shortlist for a new goalkeeper, but Genoa’s Josep Martinez is a serious backup target.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

One of Inter’s main priorities for the summer transfer window is to sign a goalkeeper.

The Nerazzurri’s plan is clear. They want to sign a young keeper who will initially be the backup to Yann Sommer in goal.

Then, after a season as the deputy to Sommer, the new keeper would be capable of inheriting the starting role.

And there is one profile in particular who Inter have made their main target in goal.

The Nerazzurri have been keen on Athletico Paranaense keeper Bento since last summer.

And according to Tuttosport, the 24-year-old is still the player who Inter are prioritizing bringing in.

Bento Tops Inter Shortlist – Josep Martinez The Backup

The main obstacle to Inter signing Bento would be the fee involved.

Athletico Paranaense are ready to hold out for no less than 20 million if they are to sell their keeper.

This would be no small amount considering Inter’s financial position.

This summer, the Nerazzurri will have to essentially reinvest money that they bring in from sales into the transfer market, but not any more than that.

Therefore, Inter are wary of the fact that they could be priced out of a move for Bento.

As such, Tuttosport anticipates, the Nerazzurri are also keeping their options open as far as other targets.

And there is one player in particular who Inter are keeping their eyes on as a backup target to Bento.

Genoa keeper Martinez has enjoyed an outstanding season in his first season in Serie A.

The Spanish international had helped Genoa to promotion to the top flight. And his excellent form was part of the reason the Grifone established a firm foothold in midfield.

Inter would consider the former RB Leipzig keeper to be their main alternative to Bento, Tuttosport reports.
