Inter Milan’s Valentin Carboni is vying for a spot in the Argentina squad for the Copa America with Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa.

This according to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster anticipate that this is one of the main doubts in terms of Albiceleste coach Lionel Scaloni’s selection of the squad.

This summer, Argentina will look to defend their crown from the last edition of the Copa America.

The Albiceleste, who are also reigning World Cup champions, will take on Canada in the tournament opener in just over two weeks.

And by and large, TyC report, coach Scaloni has already settled on which players he plans on bringing to the tournament.

However, the broadcaster anticipate, one area in which the coach is still yet to make his decision comes in attack.

There is one Inter player who will certainly be on the plane. Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez remains a key player for the national team.

But there is another player who could also be selected.

TyC report that 19-year-old attacking midfielder Carboni could also get a place in the Argentina squad for the Copa.

Carboni, who has yet to turn twenty, only just became a part of the Argentina national team setup at senior level.

The teenager made his debut for the senior national team in a friendly match against Costa Rica in March.

Prior to that, Carboni had made seven appearances for the Albiceleste’s Under-20 team. He had also played for Italy at the Under-17 level.

But this season just gone has seen Carboni take big steps forward into the senior game.

The Argentine spent the campaign on loan with Monza in Serie A.

Unlike the previous campaign, where Carboni had been a peripheral figure with Inter’s senior team and largely played for the Primavera side, the 19-year-old played for Monza’s first team.

Carboni made a total of 31 appearances in Serie A over the course of the season. He scored two goals, and assisted a further three.

This has attracted some transfer interest in the Argentine.

Fiorentina are reportedly keen on reuniting Carboni with former Monza coach Raffaele Palladino. And Inter would consider offers for the teenager, as they look to fund other signings.

Bologna, meanwhile, are also linked with a move as they reinforce their squad for the Champions League.

Appearances with Argentina at the Copa America could certainly be a platform for Carboni’s talents.

But on the other hand, TyC reports, Argentina coach Scaloni could also go for experience rather than the youthful Carboni.

The broadcaster reports that the coach is considering selecting 29-year-old Atletico Madrid forward Correa over the Inter player.
