Italy coach Luciano Spalletti says that Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella will “almost certainly” be fit for EURO 2024 according to team doctors.

The Azzurri coach gave an update on the 27-year-old’s condition while speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews. He said that more should be known about Barella’s fitness tomorrow.

Yesterday evening, Barella was not in the Italy squad for a friendly match against Turkey.

The reason for the Inter midfielder’s absence from the EURO 2024 warmup match had to do with the player’s fitness.

Before the match, Italy coach Spalletti confirmed that this was the case.

The coach made clear that Barella was not suffering from any serious injury.

However, the 27-year-old was suffering from a bit of muscular fatigue. An understandable condition after a long and gruelling club season.

Therefore, Spalletti decided against risking a player who was carrying a knock in a friendly match.

The question then is whether or not Barella will be fit for the tournament.

And former Cagliari midfielder is one of the most important player’s in Spalletti’s Italy setup. His absence for any of the Azzurri’s matches would certainly be a blow for the team.

Spalletti: Nicolo Barella “Almost Certainly” Fit For EURO 2024

Regarding Barella’s condition, Spalletti said that “I have a lot of trust in my doctors. And they told me that it is almost certain that he’ll recover in time.”

“We’re very confident about him being ready for that match,” the Italy coach continued.

Spalletti was referring here to the Azzurri’s first group stage match of the tournament.

Should Barella not be ready to start in Italy’s opening match of the tournament, it could hand an opportunity to another Inter player.

Davide Frattesi would also be a candidate to start for the Azzurri.

But Barella would certainly be a player Spalletti wants to have available. The 27-year-old has been a key player since Italy since they won the last Euros under Roberto Mancini.

And Spalletti has continued relying on the Inter midfielder as Mancini had done.
