Inter Milan and Canada national team wingback Tajon Buchanan has suffered a “significant” lower leg injury in training at the Copa America.

This according to journalist Matthew Scianitti of Canadian broadcaster TSN. He reports in a tweet that the 25-year-old is in hospital after suffering the injury during a training drill.

Over the past couple of weeks, Inter wingback Buchanan has been with the Canadian national team for the Copa America.

The Inter player started in the opening match of the tournament, a 2-0 defeat against Argentina.

And then Buchanan came off the bench in subsequent group stage matches as well. Canada beat Peru and drew with Chile to reach the knockout rounds.

Canada face Venezuela in the quarterfinals of the tournament later this week.

But it is looking as though Canada will be without Buchanan for that match. And very probably for the rest of the tournament, should they progress to the next round.

Inter & Canada Wingback Tajon Buchanan Suffers “Significant” Lower Leg Injury In Copa America Training

According to TSN journalist Scianitti, Buchanan has picked up an injury.

The Canadian journalist does not specify the exact nature of the problem, however.

He does note that the injury occurred during today’s training session, whilst the Canadian players were working on training drills. And that it was to Buchanan’s lower leg.

Scianitti further reports that the training session ended early after the Inter wingback’s injury, as it had brought about a “sombre” mood among the squad.

Buchanan is currently in hospital, he reports. There, further updates should come regarding the nature and seriousness of the injury, and potential recovery timeline.

Buchanan has been an Inter player since January of this year.

The 25-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from Club Brugge during the January transfer window.

Buchanan did not make a start for Inter during his first half-season at the club. However, he did score his first goal off the bench in a Serie A win over Frosinone.

The official Twitter account of the Canada men’s national team further confirmed that Buchanan has suffered an injury.
