Inter Milan could move for Marcos Alonso or Layvin Kurzawa after a shock injury to Tajon Buchanan – and a surprise return for Ivan Perisic is another possibility.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper also anticipate that wingback Mattia Zanotti could be brought into the first team squad.

Inter are having to reckon with the unexpected injury to wingback Tajon Buchanan.

The Canadian international suffered a tibia fracture during training with his national team at the Copa America.

The injury is a serious one. It will see Buchanan miss several months while he recovers.

That means that the 25-year-old former Club Brugge winger will play no role in the first few weeks of the upcoming season.

This poses a significant problem for Inter in terms of their depth on the flanks.

Buchanan is a player who the Nerazzurri signed, ironically enough, to cover for a long absence of Juan Cuadrado last season.

And now, Inter are left scrambling to make up for the Canadian’s own lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Despite the fact that Inter had signed Buchanan following the injury to right-wingback Cuadrado, the Canadian has exclusively played on the left flank since joining Inter.

This has freed up versatile Brazil defender Carlos Augusto to play in the back three more.

And as such, if Inter are to sign a wingback to cover for Buchanan’s absence, it would more than likely be for the left side.

Inter Weigh Up Moves For Alonso & Kurzawa After Buchanan Injury – Shock Perisic Return Also Possible

Given the circumstances, Inter are not keen to spend big on a left-wingback. This is hardly an area where the Nerazzurri had allocated cash towards this summer.

As such, Tuttosport notes, it could very well be a free transfer for a player who can provide short-term cover.

And there are two players who Inter have targeted in the past who will both be available this summer.

One is former Chelsea and Fiorentina wingback Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard’s contract with Barcelona expired at the end of last month.

Another is French international Layvin Kurzawa. The 31-year-old was a fringe player at Paris Saint-Germain last season, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Fulham.

And both would be options on Inter’s list of possible emergency wingback signings.

Meanwhile, Tuttosport report, a surprise return for Ivan Perisic cannot be ruled out. The 35-year-old is currently back at Hajduk Split in his native Croatia.

Perisic left Inter in the summer of 2022. He joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.

But the Croat is certainly a player who has great familiarity with Inter. This could make him a tempting short-term solution.

If Inter are aiming to bolster the right flank in the absence of Buchanan, Tuttosport report that they could seek a solution internally rather than making a signing.

Young wingback Mattia Zanotti is back from a loan spell at St. Gallen. The 21-year-old could be part of Inter’s squad to add to the wide options.
