18-year-old midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic has joined Swiss side Luzern on loan from Inter Milan.

The Swiss club confirm the teenage midfielder’s arrival in an official statement, via FCInterNews. They announce that he will wear the number eight next season.

Last season was one of major growth for Stankovic.

The Serbian Under-19 international captained Inter’s Primavera or Under-19 team last season.

And it was a very successful campaign for the Primavera.

Inter won the Under-19 championship. They pipped Roma to the title by two points.

And Stankovic was right at the heart of that success.

The 18-year-old has come through the youth ranks at Inter, as his brother Filip Stankovic.

And like goalkeeper Filip, Aleksandar is the son of legendary former Inter and Lazio midfielder Dejan Stankovic.

The teenage midfielder has declared that Inter is “in his blood.”

Therefore, it hasn’t been too surprising to see Stankovic go down the path that he has, becoming not just an important player but a leader in the Nerazzurri’s youth setup.

Last season Stankovic played under a former teammate of his father, ex-Inter, Roma, and Ajax defender Christian Chivu.

But now the time has come for Stankovic to take his first steps in senior football.

And the teenage midfielder will do so in Swiss football – not an uncommon destination for Inter youth team players getting their first senior experience.

Luzern have confirmed Stankovic’s arrival.

Reportedly, the Swiss club will have a 1.5 million purchase option. And Inter will have a buyback option if they do decide to exercise it.

Meanwhile, if Luzern sign Stankovic permanently and sell him, Inter will receive a portion of the fee.

Luzern’s Sporting Director Remo Meyer commented on Stankovic’s arrival.

“Aleksandar is an exciting young player,” he said. “Whose development we’ve been following for some time.”

“Despite only being eighteen years old, Aleksandar has natural leadership qualities. Which, in addition to his great potential, will carry us into next season.”
