Greek Super League side AEK Athens are pushing to sign out-of-favour Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa this summer.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. Sky report that Correa is a major target for AEK coach Matias Almeyda.

Correa certainly looks to be a player likely to leave Inter this summer.

The Argentine international spent last summer on loan with Marseille.

The French side had a purchase option in the loan deal. This would have become a mandatory obligation had they qualified for the Champions League, but they failed to do so.

And given that Correa rarely featured for Marseille and failed to score or assist a goal for the club, it is hardly a surprise that they did not decide to sign the forward on a permanent basis.

That means that Correa has returned to Inter this summer. However, the Nerazzurri certainly do not consider the former Lazio, Sampdoria, and Sevilla forward to be a part of the plans for next season.

Moreover, Correa’s contract with Inter currently runs out at the end of next June.

Therefore, Inter will do everything they can to sell the Argentine for good rather than another loan move.

AEK Athens Pushing For Inter Outcast Joaquin Correa

There has been some reported interest in Correa this summer.

This has included newly-promoted Serie A side Como, and Turkish duo Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, Argentine giants River Plate reportedly consider Correa a target.

However, the finances involved in a deal would make it difficult for River.

Then, there would be the possibility of a move to the Saudi Pro League for Correa.

Teams in the Saudi top flight have shown little reluctance to spend big on big name players from European leagues, even if their form has not been good.

But Correa could have a lifeline in the form of Greek side AEK.

The Greek team’s coach Matias Almeyda is a big fan of the 29-year-old despite his less-than-ideal recent form.

Therefore, Sky reports, the coach is pushing for the arrival of the out-of-favour Inter forward. There have been talks between the two clubs to try and work out a deal.
