Milan Mayor Beppe Sala says that the city would be willing to sell the San Siro to Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Sala spoke to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

The stadium situation of Inter and Milan remains up in the air.

The two clubs now have the plans of WeBuild to renovate the San Siro at their disposal to evaluate. WeBuild presented the plans in a meeting last month.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri also have the option of building their own new stadiums outside of the city.

If Inter and Milan were to stay at the San Siro, one thing is certain, however. They will want to own the stadium.

Currently, Inter and Milan only rent the stadium from the city of Milan.

And there is a sense that this limits the degree to which the two clubs can bring in revenues from the stadium.

Revenue generation is the key reason why the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are seeking a change.

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala: City Willing To Sell San Siro To Inter & AC Milan

Asked if the city could sell the San Siro to Inter and Milan, Sala said that “Everything would still be possible.”

“The issue would be whether or not the teams agree to renovate it,” he continued.

“Keeping in mind that WeBuild have explained to us that it can be renovated without stopping matches. Losing four or five thousand seats out of the current 74,000.”

Sala said that “Not it’s clear. They’re called on to make a decision.”

“If they go on that path, any path could be valid. Buy the stadium, the surface rights for ninety minutes. Let’s see what happens.”

“And if there are renovations, who should do them?” Sala continued.

“The answer is trivial. Better to leave it to the private sector.”

“They have more capacity and do it more quickly.”
