Oaktree Capital are skeptical of an Inter Milan move for Mario Hermoso, and could insist on keeping Valentin Carboni.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper notes how the Inter owners’ focus on youth could shape their transfer strategy this summer.
It now looks clear that Oaktree Capital will aim to put young players at the centre of their Inter project.
That means that, if there is to be a significant investment in the transfer market, the Nerazzurri owners would expect it to be on a player with potential to grow into the team in years to come.
Not to mention resale value.
And one of the new Inter owners’ first big transfer decisions could concern defender Hermoso.
Oaktree Put Breaks On Inter Move For Hermoso & Reluctant To Sell Carboni
Tuttosport report that Oaktree are not big fans of moving for 29-year-old defender Hermoso this summer.
The Spanish international is available on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Atletico Madrid.
However, signing Hermoso would be far from cheap considering his wage demands.
Oaktree are not necessarily against the idea of investing in players to bolster the squad.
But as Tuttosport note, the Inter owners do not see the idea of handing a big money deal to a player who turns thirty next season as falling within their guidelines.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri owners would prefer a deal for a younger player, on lower wages. Salernitana’s Lorenzo Pirola and Genoa’s Johan Vazquez would be prospective targets in this respect.
Meanwhile, Tuttosport reports, Oaktree could block a sale of Valentin Carboni this summer.
Inter are considering cashing in on the 19-year-old.
But Oaktree’s focus on youth means that they don’t want to let Carboni go too easily.
If Mareille or another club were to make an offer worth €35-40 million, then perhaps the Argentine could be on his way.
But for less than that Oaktree would likely insist on keeping Carboni considering his future potential.
