The agent of new Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez reveals his client is beaming after joining the club and will play his chances next season.

The 26-year-old made a name for himself in Serie A last season with a series of positive displays for Genoa.

The Nerazzurri thus decided to acquire his services after opting against maintaining the services of Emil Audero. The Italian has now returned to his parent club Sampdoria.

Martinez joins the Italian champions on a permanent basis, with Genoa collecting a transfer fee worth 13.5 million euros.

The custodian’s agent Sergio Barila reveals his client is both delighted and excited about the new challenge.

“Josep is clearly very happy because he has signed for one of the most important clubs in Europe,” said the agent in his interview with FcInterNews.

“Getting to join one of these top teams is not easy. For him, it is recognition of the work he has done so far and the level he has reached.”

Barilla amidst there have been talks with Inter dating back to March, but insists the Nerazzurri weren’t his client’s solitary admirers.

“I was in Milan for the match between Inter and Genoa. Then that visit was a normal business meeting. I always take the opportunity to talk to the various clubs.

“It is also normal for a top club like Inter to observe players like Josep. The Nerazzurri were not the only ones after him.

“These transfers obviously do not happen overnight. They are the result of at least a season’s work and evidently they decided that Josep was worthy of Inter.”

The agent also insisted that Martinez didn’t join the club to settle for a backup role, but will try to win over Simone Inzaghi.

“When we bring a player to a club, we don’t think he’s the first or the second. Josep will join the squad and the coach will decide how to deploy him.

“We’re not planning to make him second-choice this season and then a starter next term. Martinez has signed for Inter and he’s at the disposal of his coach and the club.”
