Hellas Verona defender Juan David Cabal is looking likelier and likelier to join Inter Milan as a defensive reinforcement this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter are preparing to sign a defender this summer.

The Nerazzurri’s plan is to sign a left-footed defender as part of a reshuffle at the back.

The reason for this is a serious injury to wingback to Tajon Buchanan. With the Canadian set to miss the first few months of the season, the Nerazzurri’s depth on the flanks is reduced.

However, Inter will not sign a player to cover for Buchanan directly.

Rather, the Nerazzurri’s plan is to have the versatile Carlos Augusto to play exclusively at wingback while Buchanan is out.

Since Augusto covered a significant number of minutes on the left of the back three last season, though, this means that Inter will have to bring in a new signing to reinforce in that area of the pitch.

Verona Defender Juan Cabal Looking Likelier & Likelier To Join Inter

Verona defender Cabal has emerged as a major target for Inter in their search for a defender.

The Colombian is a fairly logical profile for the Nerazzurri’s needs.

Cabal has largely played at left-back for Verona since his move from Atletico Nacional in 2022.

The 23-year-old can play as an attacking left-back, but also has strong defensive qualities.

In the last match of last season, a 2-2 thriller between Verona and Inter, Cabal even played in the centre of a back four.

Therefore, Inter view Cabal as having the right style of play to play on the left of Simone Inzaghi’s back three.

On Thursday, there was a meeting between Inter and Cabal’s representatives.

And according to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri are continuing their negotiations with the Colombian’s entourage.

Inter expect that they can secure an agreement on personal terms with Cabal. Then, they will move on to talks with Verona.

The Nerazzurri are aiming for a loan deal containing a purchase option. They would aim to have the purchase option be for a fee below €10 million.

Meanwhile, Mario Hermoso, Johan Vazquez, and Ricardo Rodriguez are other potential options for Inter, reports the Corriere.
