Inter Milan are set to hold decisive contract extension talks with wingback Denzel Dumfries next week.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Wingback Dumfries is out of contract with Inter at the end of next June.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri are keen to tie the 28-year-old Dutch international down on a new deal.
By all accounts, Inter’s plan has been to either extend Dumfries’s deal, or else sell him this summer.
Inter would have no intention of losing Dumfries on a free transfer as they did Milan Skriniar last summer.
Therefore, this summer would represent the last opportunity to cash in, were Dumfries not to extend his deal.
Inter & Denzel Dumfries To Hold Decisive Contract Talks Next Week
Dumfries is keen to stay at Inter. The former PSV wingback has openly stated as much on several occasions.
Therefore, by all accounts, Dumfries’s priority will be to find an agreement with Inter on a new contract.
The Nerazzurri had not been able to convince the Dutchman with their offers earlier this year. And moreover, they have shown little inclination to raise their offer.
Therefore, there has been a sense that the negotiations with Dumfries and his representatives could break down.
However, in the end Dumfries’s desire to stay will be the key factor, reports Tuttosport.
The Dutchman will accept the offer that Inter consider to be the highest that they can make.
Dumfries has been at the Euros this summer with the Netherlands. The Oranje reached the semifinal, where they were eliminated by England.
While at the Euros, Dumfries has put his contract talks with Inter.
However, the 28-year-old no longer has the Euros to worry about. Therefore, Inter are keen to wrap things up in contract talks once and for all.
Therefore, Tuttosport report, the decisive round of contract negotiations should take place next week.
