Famous Spanish manager Rafael Benitez insists Inter Milan still possess the strongest squad ahead of the upcoming Serie A campaign.

The Nerazzurri smoked the competition last season en route towards a historic 20th Serie A title.

They clinched the trophy with five rounds to spare by beating their crosstown rivals AC Milan in an unforgettable edition of the Derby della Madonnina.

Ahead of the new campaign, the Rossoneri and the rest of the field will be looking to close the gap on the reigning champions.

Almost all of the big Serie A boys have acquired new managers for this particular task. Antonio Conte made his return to Italy through the gates of Napoli, while Juventus and Milan appointed more progressive coaches in the shape of Thiago Motta and Paulo Fonseca.

Yet, Benitez believes that Inter will still have the upper hand thanks to their superior squad.

“Inter have the best squad at the moment, but Milan have done very well with Pioli and can recover that level,” noted the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid coach in his interview with Il Corriere della Serra via FcInterNews.

Rafael Benitez Insists Inter Milan Have The Best Squad In Serie A

“Napoli will have a great coach, a strong team and a solid fan base that will support them from the start.

“Let’s not forget about Juventus who will always be strong. And also Roma who have improved a lot in recent months. It will be a fun season.”

Benitez also had a brief and unsuccessful experience at Inter during the 2010/11 campaign. He inherited Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning squad but failed to recreate the Special One’s success.

Therefore, Massimo Moratti, Inter Milan’s president at the time, decided to sack the Spaniard in mid-season. He replaced him with former AC Mian coach and director Leonardo.
