Wingback Denzel Dumfries is getting closer and closer to extending his contract with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that signing Bologna’s Dan Ndoye would be the backup plan if Dumfries doesn’t extend.

Wingback Dumfries is out of contract with Inter at the end of next June.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri are keen to tie the 28-year-old Dutch international down on a new deal.

By all accounts, Inter’s plan has been to either extend Dumfries’s deal, or else sell him this summer.

Inter would have no intention of losing Dumfries on a free transfer as they did Milan Skriniar last summer.

Therefore, this summer would represent the last opportunity to cash in, were Dumfries not to extend his deal.

Dumfries is keen to stay at Inter. The former PSV wingback has openly stated as much on several occasions.

Therefore, by all accounts, Dumfries’s priority will be to find an agreement with Inter on a new contract.

The Nerazzurri had not been able to convince the Dutchman with their offers earlier this year. And moreover, they have shown little inclination to raise their offer.

Therefore, there has been a sense that the negotiations with Dumfries and his representatives could break down.

Denzel Dumfries Inching Towards New Inter Milan Contract

Dumfries and his representatives had initially asked for 5 million net per season in wages in order to sign a new contract.

However, Inter have not budged in their offer. They have put a new deal worth 4 million net per season in the table.

In the end, though, it looks as though Dumfries will accept this offer.

The Dutchman has sent clear signals that he intends to stay.

So far there have not been any definitive talks. Dumfries has been at the Euros with the Netherlands.

But now that the 28-year-old’s tournament is over, the time is almost at hand for Inter and Dumfries to hammer out a new deal once and for all.

In the events that the talks don’t go smoothly, Inter would aim to sell Dumfries for a fee of 25-30 million.

And should Dumfries depart, Inter’s clear priority target to replace him would be Swiss international Dan Ndoye.

Bologna would want a fee of 25 million for Ndoye.
