Inter Milan are speeding up in their efforts to sign Hellas Verona defender Juan David Cabal.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the deal could be a loan containing a conditional purchase obligation.

One thing that looks clear is that Inter will sign a defender for the left side of their back three.

The reason for this is that Carlos Augusto will not be playing there next season. The versatile Brazilian will be playing at wingback in the absence of Tajon Buchanan, who’s recovering from a leg break.

Therefore, Inter will need a player who can back up Alessandro Bastoni on the left. Augusto will be tied up on the flank.

Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has admitted that this is the club’s strategy.

Inter Milan Speeding Up In Pursuit Of Hellas Verona Defender Juan Cabal

There have been a couple names linked as a possible defensive reinforcement for Inter.

These have included a couple free transfer opportunities. Both Mario Hermoso and Ricardo Rodriguez have reportedly come onto the Nerazzurri’s radar.

However, reports have suggested that Inter owners Oaktree Capital would prefer to make an investment in a younger player.

And Verona defender Cabal is the player who Inter are focusing on.

There have already been talks between Inter and the Colombian’s representatives.

And according to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri are getting ready for further negotiations with Cabal’s club Verona.

Inter’s hope is to sign Cabal on an initial loan deal.

This would contain a purchase option, which could then become a mandatory obligation under certain conditions.

The negotiations between Inter and Verona should soon take place to determine exactly what sort of structure a loan deal with a purchase option would have.

Meanwhile Inter would aim for the fee involved in the deal to be under 10 million.
