Inter Milan are still yet to agree a contract extension with wingback Denzel Dumfries.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster reports that the Nerazzurri will still aim to sell the Dutchman if he does not sign a new deal this summer.
At the moment, Dumfries is on holidays following the Euros.
The Inter wingback made it as far as the semifinal stage of the tournament with England.
Dumfries as well as Nerazzurri teammate Stefan de Vrij were regular starters for the Oranje on their run to the semifinal. However, they were eliminated at the hands of eventual beaten finalists England.
For the moment, Dumfries is just resting and getting ready to return to preseason training with Inter.
But the Nerazzurri are also thinking about the Dutchman’s future.
One thing has always been clear: if Dumfries does not sign a new deal, Inter will try to sell him.
At the moment, the 28-year-old is out of contract with Inter at the end of next June. Therefore, if he were to go into next season without an extension in hand, he could leave at the end of next season.
And Inter have no intention of losing Dumfries on a free transfer. That is what happened with defender Milan Skriniar last summer.
Inter Milan Yet To Agree Contract Extension With Denzel Dumfries
Dumfries has made it clear that he wants to stay at Inter.
This certainly looks like a positive sign that the former PSV wingback will eventually sign a new deal.
But as of yet, Sky reports, there is no agreement between Inter and Dumfries.
The Nerazzurri must still sit down for the decisive talks with the 28-year-old’s representatives.
Previous negotiations have stalled as Inter have not made an offer that reached Dumfries’s wage demands.
Therefore, the big question is still whether Dumfries will accept the offer that Inter put on the table.
And if the Dutchman declines, then Inter will listen to offers for him over the next few weeks. This summer transfer window would represent the last real opportunity to cash in on him.
Dumfries joined Inter from PSV in the summer of 2021.
