Lautaro Martinez is ready to sign a contract extension with Inter Milan in the next few days following his starring role for Argentina the Copa America.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.
This summer has been a positive one for Martinez.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed an excellent Copa America with the Argentine national team, helping them to win the tournament.
Martinez finished the Copa as the tournament’s top scorer, with five goals from six matches played in total.
The Inter captain did not start regularly for the Albiceleste throughout the tournament.
Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, who had overtaken Martinez in the starting spot at the World Cup in Qatar, was still the starter in most of Argentina’s matches.
However, that certainly did not prevent Martinez from having an impact off the bench.
The 26-year-old scored decisive goals for Argentine throughout the tournament. Including in yesterday evening’s 1-0 win over Colombia in the final.
This makes it three trophies in a row that Martinez has won with Argentina at international tournaments.
Lautaro Martinez To Pen Inter Milan Contract Extension After Copa America Heroics
Now it is time for Martinez to turn his attention back to his club duties.
The 26-year-old will have a few weeks of vacation after the Copa America. He will have the next three weeks off to rest and recharge after a long club season and the Copa.
Then, the Argentine will start preparing for the upcoming club season in Inter’s preseason training camp. He’ll be in training on the 7th or 8th of August, reports Sky.
Therefore, Martinez should have around ten days of training to get back up to speed.
But in the meantime, Sky reports, Martinez should also put pen to paper on his new contract with Inter.
The 26-year-old will sign his deal while he is on vacation.
At the moment, Martinez is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.
However, Inter have everything in place for the Argentine to sign a long-term extension taking him until the end of June 2029.
