Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi will evaluate defender Alex Perez in training after the teenager arrives from Real Betis.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the coach will make a decision on whether the 18-year-old could play a role in the first team next season.
Perez is now on the verge of joining Inter.
The Spaniard should undergo his medicals and sign his contract this week.
Inter have been negotiating with Betis for over a month to sign Perez. They see the teenage defender as a major prospect for the future, and have pushed for his signature.
Meanwhile, Perez himself has been decisive. He has decided that Inter’s project is right for him and has pressured Betis to find an agreement with Inter.
And now, everything is in place.
Inzaghi To Evaluate Alex Perez In Inter Preseason Training
Inter are signing Perez because they seem him having a path into the first team over the coming seasons.
The question, however, is what the timeline looks like for Perez.
The Spaniard is still just eighteen years of age.
Therefore, it is not as though there is a rush for Perez to dive headfirst into senior football, particularly considering that he has not yet made an appearance for Betis’s senior team.
Very likely, Perez will play much of his football with Inter’s Primavera or Under-19 team next season.
However, that does not mean that Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi won’t get a look at Perez right away.
The plan is for the Spaniard to start working in Inter’s preseason training camp as soon as he arrives, with the senior squad.
Inzaghi will take the opportunity to watch Perez.
The coach will get a sense of whether Perez could already start contributing to the first team, as with Yann Bisseck last season. Or whether he needs a season at Primavera level under his belt first.
