Lautaro Martinez and Alvaro Morata could define the derby between Inter Milan and AC Milan next season.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They note the two strikers’ heroics at the Copa America and the Euros respectively.

31-year-old Spanish international striker Morata is on the verge of a move to AC Milan.

The Spaniard is joining from Atletico Madrid. He has also had spells playing for Real Madrid, Juventus, and Chelsea.

Morata joins the Rossoneri with the expectation that he will become their attacking talisman. He replaces France veteran Olivier Giroud as the reference point leading the Milan line.

And Morata will have much the same job that Lautaro Martinez does for Inter.

Both Morata and Martinez had memorable summers. Both won international silverware with the Spanish and Argentine national teams respectively.

For Spain, Morata was a key figure.

The 31-year-old may not have scored many goals. Just one, and it was the one that kicked of their tournament, the first in a 3-0 rout of Croatia.

But Morata’s place in the Spain starting eleven was never in any doubt.

The former Chelsea striker is a key man for La Roja, stitching together the attack on and off the ball.

The same cannot quite be said for Inter captain Martinez.

The 26-year-old started just two matches for Argentina at the Copa America. It was still Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez who got the nod over him more often than not.

But that certainly didn’t prevent Martinez from having his say.

The 26-year-old was Argentina’s top scorer, and the Copa America’s more broadly.

Martinez scored a late winner against Chile in the group stage in a 1-0 victory. And he went one better in a 1-0 extra time victory over Colombia.

Next season, Martinez and Morata will aim to inspire their respective club sides to victory on either side of the Milan derby divide.
