Former Inter Milan and Bayern Munich striker Juergen Klinsmann feels that Lautaro Martinez is a “phenomenon.”
The German praised Inter’s current captain in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter captain Martinez has put himself into Ballon D’Or contention.
The Argentine has capped off his exceptional season at club level by inspiring his country to the Copa America this summer.
Martinez is a key figure for Inter. Not just for his goals – the 26-year-old was Inter’s top scorer for the third season in a row last campaign, and top scorer for all of Serie A.
Martinez is also the player who sets the tone for everything that the Nerazzurri do.
On and off the ball, Martinez is a leader for Inter.
Wearing the captain’s armband, it is the Argentine who leads the line with his defensive workrate and linkup play.
Klinsmann: “Lautaro Martinez A Phenomenon, No Go On & Win The Champions League”
Klinsmann described Martinez in one word: “Phenomenon.”
“In the last two years he’s grown expotentially,” he went on. “It’s been extraordinary to see.”
“He always goes at a hundred kilometres and hour. And the great thing is that he deserves all of this.”
“It’s like after winning the World Cup in 2022 he fully unlocked himself,” Klinsmann said.
He said that Martinez “remains indispensable for Inter.”
Klinsmann also praised the impact that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has had on Martinez.
“When a coach and a striker find the right understanding, we see what happens,” the German said. “Top scorer, title, second star.”
“Simone did an extraordinary job with Lautaro,” Klinsmann argued.
Of next season, Klinsmann said that “Next season will have the Club World Cup, but [Martinez] won’t have any problems.”
“The armband has given him responsibility,”
“He can take his place among the absolute best players in the world in his position.”
And as far as the next step for Martinez, Klinsmann said “Winning the Champions League – he still has something left to prove there.”
