Inter Milan owners Oaktree Capital have given the green light for the Nerazzurri to finalize a deal for Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that now the Nerazzurri must simply work out the final details with Verona.

Over the last week or so, Inter have been going full speed ahead in their efforts to sign Verona defender Cabal.

The Colombian has emerged as the Nerazzurri’s main target to reinforce in defense.

Inter’s plan has been to sign a left-sided defender.

This is largely because of the unexpected setback that is a long-term injury to Canadian international wingback Tajon Buchanan.

With Buchanan on the sidelines for the first few months of next season, Carlos Augusto will play primarily or exclusively on the flank.

And with Augusto tied up at wingback, Inter want to bolster the options on the left side of the back three.

Oaktree Green Light Inter Move For Verona Defender Juan Cabal

There were a few options that Inter considered as far as a target in defense.

Both Mario Hermoso and Ricardo Rodriguez are available on free transfers this summer. Inter are certainly no stranger to free transfer signings.

And both of the former Atletico Madrid and Torino defenders are more than capable of playing on the left of a back three.

But Inter owners Oaktree preferred an investment in a younger player.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri turned their attention to Verona defender Cabal as their top target.

The negotiations have progressed swiftly.

Inter have already found an agreement with Cabal on personal terms. He is set to sign a five-year contract worth around 1 million net per season plus add-ons.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are closing in on an agreement with Verona.,

There are a few details left to iron out. But the total value of the deal should be around 10 million.

The Corriere report that the Nerazzurri will sign Cabal on a permanent basis right away, rather than loaning the Colombian initially.

Meanwhile, young winger Issiaka Kamate could go the other way as part of the deal, lowering the cash fee.

Inter naturally required the go-ahead from Oaktree to invest the necessary funds for the deal.

Yesterday, Oaktree representatives Alejandro Camano and Katherine Ralph were at Inter headquarters, reports the Corriere.

And the US fund has given the green light for Inter to go ahead and sign Cabal.
