Inter Milan should likely only have to bring in one more new player after completing the signing of Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They suggest that the Nerazzurri will still search for one more forward in August.
As the Gazzetta note, it is never easy for teams to approach the transfer market after a season like the one Inter had last time out.
Normally, the priority is to keep together a team that has won in dominant fashion as much as possible.
And the Nerazzurri are no exception in this regard.
Inter have long signalled that their intention is to keep all of last season’s regular starters.
The Nerazzurri appear poised to do so. Barring a falling-through of contract extension talks with Denzel Dumfries – or any major surprises – the spine of the team will remain intact.
Forward Signing Could Be One Last Piece Of Business For Inter After Juan Cabal
That does not mean, however, that Inter have not strengthened this summer.
Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski have both arrived on free transfers. That duo promises to bolster Inter’s strength in depth.
The same is true of goalkeeper Josep Martinez, who comes in as the Nerazzurri’s designated new long-term goalkeeper once Yann Sommer is phased out.
Inter are also making another notable signing in the form of Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal.
The Colombian will allow the Nerazzurri to reshuffle at the back so that Carlos Augusto can cover for the injured Tajon Buchanan at wingback.
Therefore, unlike rivals such as Juventus, Napoli, and AC Milan, Inter can already more or less say that their squad is complete.
But maybe not quite. There have long been rumours that Inter will still move to sign one more forward.
Whether it’s a big name or a left-field free transfer opportunity. Inter could indeed make it five rather than four senior forwards in their squad.
Then, the Nerazzurri would likely call their summer transfer business done.
