Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is looking to design Piotr Zielinski a similar role to his Luis Alberto and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Poland international has finally made his arrival at Appiano Gentile this morning. He underwent his first training session with the club on Thursday.

The Nerazzurri had announced the signing of the 30-year-old last week following the expiry of his contract with Napoli.

However, many fans and observers how Zielinski would fit in Inter’s already-packed midfield department.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908, Inzaghi is looking to deploy his new signing in a similar role to his old Lazio pupil Luis Alberto. This is also the position that Mkhitaryan currently occupies at Inter.

In other words, the Pole will be the creative box-to-box player with the license to push forward and aim for the goal.

Therefore, a duel with Mkhitaryan seems inevitable.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal star has been almost omnipresent in Inzaghi’s starting lineup. He only missed three matches across all competitions last season.

However, Zielinski has also proven his consistency over the years. The former Napoli and Udinese star has made at least 45 appearances per year since 2016.

So with the Armenian already 35 years of age, this could be the season where Inzaghi begins to rotate him. This could be more plausible in the presence of a competent alternative at the coach’s disposal.

As the source explains, the Nerazzurri manager had given Zielinski a series of exercises to do while on vacation. Inzaghi did the same with all players returning late from their Euro 2024 and Copa America commitments.

But now that the Poland international joined the pre-season preparations, he’ll be looking to impress his coach to earn himself significant playing time from the get-go.
