Legendary former Inter Milan striker Diego Milito feels that he’d take Lautaro Martinez even over himself in a Nerazzurri shirt.

The Argentine appeared on the TikTok channel of journalist Marko Cisco, via FCInterNews. He compared the 2010 Treble team, also taking coach Jose Mourinho over Simone Inzaghi.

Martinez has enjoyed an outstanding year.

The 26-year-old has even put himself into Ballon D’Or contention with his performances.

Martinez finished the Serie A season as the division’s top scorer, helping power Inter to the title.

And in the Copa America this summer, the Argentine was also the top scorer. Martinez scored five goals to help the Albiceleste to win the trophy for the second time in a row.

There’s a certain parallel between Martinez and Milito.

Both are, of course, Argentine. Both came through the ranks at Racing Club before going on to make their mark in Italian football.

And both have been key figures in Inter teams that have won silverware.

Milito was the scorer of both goals when Inter beat Bayern Munich to win the Champions League in 2010, completing the treble.

Meanwhile, Martinez has won seven trophies and counting with the Nerazzurri. He has also started both a Europa League and Champions League final for the club.

Martinez wore the captain’s armband as Inter won the Serie A title last campaign.

Inter Legend Diego Milito: “I’d Take Lautaro Over Myself”

Milito compared the Treble-winning Inter to the current one.

The legendary former striker took Julio Cesar in goal over Yann Sommer. Three Treble-winners were in the backline – Maicon, Lucio, and Walter Samuel.

But Alessandro Bastoni got in on the left of Milito’s back four.

In midfield, Inter’s current trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella miss out. In their place, Milito picks Treble-winners Esteban Cambiasso, Javier Zanetti, and Wesley Sneijder.

But on the left, current Inter player Federico Dimarco gets the nod ahead of Goran Pandev.

Milito chooses Samuel Eto’o ahead of Marcus Thuram in attack.

But pairing the Cameroonian in the imaginary lineup is a current Inter player. “Lautaro,” he said.

Asked if he was being “humble” picking Martinez over himself, Milito replied “No. It’s the truth.”

“That’s really what I think.”

And as for the coach, Milito said “Jose.”

“With all due respect to Inzaghi, and even if it’s a tough choice. Mourinho.”
