Inter Milan are keeping tabs on Genoa defender Johan Vazquez. However, they must act swiftly as the player reportedly has Premier League suitors.

The Serie A champions are currently searching the market for a new left-footed defender.

Moreover, the club’s new owners Oaktree Capital prefer a young profile rather than experienced free agents Ricardo Rodriguez and Mario Hermoso.

The Nerazzurri thought they had found the ideal candidate in the shape of Hellas Verona’s Juan Cabal. However, Juventus launched a late onslaught to snatch the player’s services.

Therefore, Inter are once again on the lookout for a defender.

So according to TNT Sports Mexico via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri have now set their sights on Vazquez.

The 25-year-old started his career in Tigres before representing a host of other Mexican clubs.

The defender eventually joined Genoa in 2021. After a loan spell with Cremonese in 2022/23, he rejoined Alberto Gilardino’s ranks last summer, establishing himself as a regular starter.

The Mexico international often plays as a left centre-back in Genoa’s three-man backline. But can also play as a left-back or a wingback.

Last February, he extended his contract with the Grifone, pushing back the expiry date to June 2027.

Inter Milan Tracking Genoa Defender Johan Vazquez

However, Inter aren’t alone in the race. As the source tells it, two anonymous Premier League clubs are also interested in the centre-back’s services.

The source believes that Vazquez is happy at Genoa, but the growing interest in his services could put an end to his time at Marassi.

Inter have already concluded business with the Rossoblu this summer. They signed Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martinez as a backup for Yann Sommer.

The Nerazzurri also continue to pursue Genoa’s main talisman Albert Gudmundsson.

But while this source tips Inter to launch an onslaught for Vazquez, others believe the management has identified Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior as a primary target.
