A report in the Italian press explains how Juventus swayed Hellas Verona fullback Juan Cabal at the eleventh hour to pip Inter Milan in the race.

The Nerazzurri have been searching the market for a new left-footed defender following Tajon Buchanan’s injury.

With Oaktree preferring a younger profile, Cabal became the primary target for the Nerazzurri. All major sources in the Italian media were tipping Inter to imminently finalize the deal.

However, Juventus have overtaken their Derby d’Italia rivals at the final instance, bringing back memories of the Gleison Bremer sage a couple of years ago.

Therefore, Cabal is now instead completing his transfer to the Turin-based giants.

So how did the Old Lady pull off this coup?

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews) puts it, Juventus succeeded in placing the decisive paw.

The Bianconeri’s Football Director Cristiano Giuntoli sensed that Inter were on the verge of reaching the finish line.

Therefore, he decided to accelerate his attempts and raise the stakes. The former Napoli sporting director found a swift agreement with Hellas Verona after offering a transfer fee worth 10 million euros in addition to 2 million as bonuses.

How Juventus Overtook Inter Milan In The Race For Juan Cabal

When they learned about these figures, Inter decided to step aside. The Italian champions had no intention to get dragged into a bidding war.

So with Inter dropping out of the race, Juventus found a clear path ahead of them.

Cabal is a 23-year-old left-back who has been developing his game at the Stadio Bentegodi since 2022.

Inter considered him the right profile due to his young age and ability to play either as a centre-back or a wingback in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri must now turn their attention to another defender.
