Inter Milan summer signing Mehdi Taremi is emerging as a serious candidate to start in the club’s Serie A season opener against Genoa.

The Nerazzurri will kick off their title defense campaign with a trip to Liguria. They will take on the Rossoblu at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on August 17th.

While we’re still almost one month away from the first kick of the season, Taremi is already presenting his case for a starting berth, explains Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews.

The 32-year-old signed for the Italian champions as a free agent after seeing out his contract with Porto. He penned a third-year deal with the Beneamata.

The Iranian has placed himself at Simone Inzaghi’s disposal from the first day of pre-season.

On the other hand, his new attacking teammates Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and Marko Arnautovic will gradually report to training over the next few weeks following their EURO 2024 and Copa America commitments.

Therefore, Taremi had the opportunity to prove his worth in the first friendly of pre-season. He led the Nerazzurri to a 3-2 win by scoring a brace and providing the assist for Joaquin Correa’s opener.

So if the Iran international continues to impress in the summer camp, he could be a prime candidate to start against Genoa.

Moreover, Lautaro will only join the club’s preparations ten days before the first official kickoff. So this could be another factor that boosts Taremi’s chances

The experienced attacker can play as a centre-forward who leads the line, but also as a second striker.

His versatility should prove valuable for Inzaghi and allow him to fit alongside any other Nerazzurri attacker.
