Inter Milan are reportedly looking to maintain the services of Marko Arnautovic even if they end up signing Albert Gudmundsson.
The Nerazzurri have long identified the Genoa star as one of their primary targets for the summer transfer session.
However, the management is struggling to find an agreement with the Grifone who are seeking 30 million euros.
Moreover, Inter would have to offload some of their players to make room for the Icelandic striker. That is both in terms of the squad and on the wage bill.
But while the Italian champions could sell Joaquin Correa and Valentin Carboni to pave the way for Gudmundsson, they still intend to keep Arnautovic.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInter1908, the Nerazzurri are aware of the risks that would accompany the Icelandic’s arrival.
The 27-year-old will undergo a trial in his home country as he faces sexual assault charges.
So if the court finds him guilty, it will likely serve as a deadly blow to his playing career.
Inter Milan Won’t Sell Marko Arnautovic Even If They Sign Albert Gudmundsson
Therefore, Inter want to protect themselves by keeping another four strikers in the squad.
Moreover, head coach Simone Inzaghi has been pushing the idea of a fifth striker since the start of the summer.
So if the Italian champions end up losing the services of Gudmundsson, they would like to have Arnautovic among their ranks.
Otherwise, Inzaghi will be left with a depleted department that only contains three strikers. These are, Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and new signing Mehdi Taremi.
As we all know, a packed campaign awaits the Nerazzurri. They will participate in Serie A, Coppa Italia, the Italian Super Cup, the new version of the UEFA Champions League, in addition to next summer’s inaugural edition of the extended FIFA Club World Cup.
