Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi lauds the club’s current midfield unit, but can’t help but feel that it lacks some height.

The Nerazzurri have rounded up what was already an impressive department by signing Piotr Zielinski.

The 30-year-old Poland international joins the Italian champions on a free transfer after eight years at Napoli.

With this new addition, Simone Inzaghi now has six competent midfielders competing for three starting berths.

Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been the undisputed starters, whereas Davide Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani will be hoping for more playing time this season.

Thus, Bergomi heaps praise on Inter’s middle of the park.

“Inter have a really strong midfield”. said the Nerazzurri icon in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Just think of the three who have always been identified as starters: Barella, Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan.

“They are practically three number tens who have changed roles and are thriving in it, guaranteeing incredible quality.

“Moreover, the alternatives are equally reliable. Asllani has gained more self-esteem and personality after the European Championships in Germany.

“Frattesi has different characteristics because he comes in and breaks away. Finally, Zielinski is perfect for giving Mkhitaryan a breather and knows how to play both phases of the game.”

Nevertheless, Bergomi notes that Inter’s midfield lacks a physically imposing player.

“Perhaps only a few centimeters are missing, because no one has a dominant physical structure in terms of height.

“I am sure Zielinski won’t have problems settling in. After all, he already played in a three-man midfield at Napoli. He will also play as a mezzala for the Nerazzurri.

“Now it is difficult to discuss whether or not he can be a starter. Mkhitaryan is a very serious professional and a competent player.

“So I don’t imagine a sudden drop in performance or stamina on his part.”
