Genoa are going to push go hold onto Inter Milan targets Albert Gudmundsson and Johan Vazquez this summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Grifone will not lose hold of either player without a fight.
Inter have already made one major signing from Genoa this summer.
26-year-old former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas goalkeeper Josep Martinez has arrived at the Nerazzurri from the Ligurian club. He is the player Inter have earmarked as their future first-choice goalkeeper.
However, Inter may not be done in targeting players from Genoa.
First of all, there is forward Albert Gudmundsson. For months it has been apparent that the Icelander is the Nerazzurri’s top target in attack.
A move for Gudmundsson would hardly be straightforward for Inter on a financial level. Moreover, there is the issue of a legal case for sexual assault in his native Iceland looming over the 26-year-old.
But Gudmundsson is reportedly the top target for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi in attack.
And in defense, Inter reportedly want 25-year-old Mexican international Vazquez.
After the Nerazzurri’s move for Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal fell through, Vazquez is one of their major remaining targets for the left side of their back three.
Genoa Want To Keep Hold Of Inter Targets Gudmundsson & Vazquez
However, Tuttosport report, finding an agreement with Genoa on Gudmundsson and Vazquez may not be as easy for Inter as agreeing a deal for Martinez was.
Grifone President Alberto Zangrillo has said as much.
Zangrillo made clear that he expects both Gudmundsson and Vazquez to stay this summer.
In the case of Gudmundsson, Inter have been hoping to get creative with the structure of a deal.
But that would require a certain cooperation from Genoa. And the President’s words suggest that may not be easy.
Meanwhile, for Vazquez, it may be similarly difficult negotiations with the Ligurian club.
