Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Lautaro Martinez has extended his contract, and says Albert Gudmundsson is “not right for us at the moment.”

Marotta spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Inter have an attack consisting of Argentina’s Copa America hero Lautaro Martinez along with Marcus Thuram, Marko Arnautovic, and summer signing Mehdi Taremi.

This summer, one the Nerazzurri’s most important priorities has been to extend the contract of Martinez.

The Argentine’s most recent contract extension came in the autumn of 2021.

This saw Martinez take his deal to the end of June 2026.

But naturally, Inter want to have Martinez in their ranks long after that point.

Martinez has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past three seasons. Last season, he was the top scorer in all of Serie A.

Moreover, Martinez also wears the captain’s armband at Inter.

The 26-year-old has been the skipper since inheriting the armband from Samir Handanovic last summer.

In the meantime, there have also been rumours about Inter signing one more attacker this summer. In this respect, the strongest links have been to Genoa and Iceland forward Gudmundsson.

Inter President Marotta: “Lautaro Has Extended Contract, Gudmundsson Not Right For Us”

Inter President Marotta did not hide the fact the captain Martinez has extended his deal.

“Yes, it’s all done,” said the Inter President.

“We already have his signature. However, we want to make it official when he’s back from his holidays.”

“We’ve almost entirely tied down the squad from last season,” Marotta continued.

“And we’ve also added some top players like Taremi, Zielinski, and Martinez. We’ve made the team competitive for our goals next season.”

Inter’s President continued that “We have an excellent coach. We have both directors and coaching staff of the highest level, and great fans.”

Meanwhile, Marotta also addressed the transfer links to Gudmundsson.

The Inter President called a move for the 26-year-old Genoa forward “Not an option.”

“At the moment, we have an attack with quality and depth.”

“At this moment, he’s not right for us,” Marotta said of Gudmundsson.
