Midfielder Piotr Zielinski could be the “missing puzzle piece” needed to strengthen the Inter Milan midfield.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They suggest that the addition of the Pole could be just what Inter need to keep their grip on the Serie A title.

Inter face a particular kind of challenge this summer transfer window.

It has long been apparent that the Nerazzurri’s real priority is to keep the existing team together.

There is clearly no radical overhaul necessary for the Inter squad. The spine of the current Nerazzurri team is coming off the back of a season where they won the Serie A title by a margin of nearly twenty points.

However, that doesn’t mean that Inter can entirely stand still in the transfer market.

Not while rivals like AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli have spent the summer embarking on ambitious strengthening campaigns.

Piotr Zielinski The “Missing Puzzle Piece” For Inter Milan

Midfield is not exactly an obvious area in which Inter required any strengthening last season.

The Nerazzurri boasted a first-choice trio of great technical and physical quality and strong balance in the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella.

Kristjan Asllani has grown into his role of understudy to Calhanoglu.

And the sense is that there is even more to come from the all-action Davide Frattesi.

But in Zielinski, Inter have brought in a player who puts an exclamation point on their midfield.

Even with all the big moves being made around them, Inter should have, on paper, the most complete and high-quality in the Italian top flight still.

The 30-year-old Polish international has been playing in Serie A for a decade.

Zielinski can play on either side of a trio, or in attacking midfield.

The former Napoli and Empoli midfielder’s emergence over the course of the season may be just what Inter need to stave off the threat of their biggest Scudetto challengers.
