Teenage Inter Milan attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni says the Copa America was “incredible”
The 19-year-old spoke on Argentine broadcaster TNT Sports, via FCInterNews. He also praised Nerazzurri captain and Argentina teammate Lautaro Martinez for his “hunger.”
This summer, Inter attacking midfielder Carboni got some hugely important experience.
The Argentine was part of his national team’s squad as they won the Copa America.
Carboni did not play much of a role at the tournament. However, the very fact that he was called up for this summer is a testament to the faith that Albiceleste coach Lionel Scaloni has in him.
Just before the Copa, Carboni had made his first ever start for Argentina. This came in a warmup friendly against Guatemala.
Meanwhile, Carboni also came off the bench in a group stage win over Peru.
This all shows the fact that the 19-year-old is already starting to find his feet in senior football.
Last season, Carboni spent the campaign on loan with Monza. It was a season of growth in the senior top flight game, as the Inter attacking midfielder worked his way into the Brianzoli starting eleven.
This summer, Carboni’s future looks up in the air.
Inter are not likely to include the Argentine in their first team plans next season. They could send him out on loan, or even sell him outright.
Marseille reportedly have made Carboni into a major target.
Valentin Carboni Hails “Incredible” Copa America, “Hungry” Lautaro Martinez
“The Copa America was an incredible experience,” said Carboni. “I enjoyed it a lot, personally.”
The Inter attacking midfielder continued that “The adaptation was difficult. Particularly in the first few days.”
“Then as the days went by, we played Playstation together, we became friends. The truth is that the guys are all great.”
And lastly, Carboni also had words of praise for Lautaro Martinez, a teammate of his at both club and international level.
“I was fortunate to play with him at Inter for a season,” said Carboni of Nerazzurri captain Martinez.
“I was surprised by the hunger that he has,” he continued. “It’s impressive.”
“At the Copa America, he came off the bench and made the difference in fifteen minutes. All thanks to the desire and mentality that he has.”
“He’s always ready to score,” Carboni said of Martinez.
