Zenit St. Petersburg want a fee of at least €20 million to sell defender Robert Renan, as Inter Milan prepare to move.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster report that the 20-year-old has a release clause of €26 million, but Zenit would let him go for less.
Renan has emerged as the latest name on Inter’s list of defensive targets.
The Nerazzurri had been on the verge of signing 22-year-old Colombian youth team international Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona.
However, Juventus moved in at the eleventh hour. They completed a deal for Cabal under Inter’s noses.
This leaves the Nerazzurri back at square one in their search for a defender.
However, Inter’s strategy remains the same as far as the profile of defender they are seeking.
Inter want a left-sided defender who can deputize for Alessandro Bastoni in the squad.
This would allow Carlos Augusto – who played significant minutes on the left of the back three last season – to play exclusively at wingback while Tajon Buchanan is on the sidelines.
Zenit Want €20M For Robert Renan As Inter Chase Heats Up
Inter have the options of Mario Hermoso or Ricardo Rodriguez on a free transfer to bolster the left side of their defense.
But Sky report that these older players do not convince the Nerazzurri.
Rather, Inter’s aim is to invest in a younger player with potentially to grow.
In this respect, Renan would certainly fit the bill.
The 20-year-old joined Russian giants Zenit from Corinthians last summer.
Renan has currently gone back to Brazil on loan, to play for Internacional.
But Inter are keen to swoop in and sign Renan. Sky confirm that the Brazil Under-20 international is one the major targets on their list.
The broadcaster report that there is a €26 million release clause in Renan’s contract with Zenit.
But Inter would not have to pay that much.
Sky anticipate that Zenit would be seeking a fee of around €20 million.
Inter could aim for a deal structured around an initial loan or something similar, however.
